Seeing Through Glass is an exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Henri Carrara, celebrating a luminous dialogue between the masters of the past and the innovators of today. Through a series of visual triptychs, Carrara explores a selection of Finnish and international glass artists using three complementary techniques, inviting viewers to discover new perspectives of creative genius. 

Henri Carrara is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice has been shaped by his journey from South Africa to Finland. Drawing on a background in medical research and a deep appreciation for the harmony of music, he creates what he describes as “visual triptychs”: complex neural processes that translate into layered portraits of form and light. 

In Seeing Through Glass, Carrara presents portraits of thirteen artists, ranging from the icons of Finland’s Golden Age to contemporary makers shaping the future history of art glass. Each artist is explored through three complementary techniques: multimedia painting, Graal glass sculpture, and Carrara’s own novel experimental flat Graal panels. The works unfold through repetition, revealing subtle shifts and details as perception, mind and light interact.  

As the newest member of the Lasikomppania in Nuutajärvi, Carrara operates from his studios in the historic glass village in Nuutajärvi and nearby Urjala. His work continues the 230-year legacy of Finnish art glass through a modern, conceptual lens, celebrating the living, luminous dialogue between the masters of the past and the innovators of today.
